Ervan Chew Park (aka Dunlavy Park) is a great little park in the Museum District. It has big trees, a splashpad, playground, small basketball court, baseball field, picnic tables and dog park.
There are two play structures and swings under the giant oak trees. One is small for toddlers and one is big enough, with slides, steps, ladders and monkey bars, to entertain the big kids.
The equipment at Ervan Chew Park is getting a little worn, but the kids don't seem to mind.
We went back since the city playgrounds re-opened... and everything is open, including the splashpad.
When we first started visiting, there was a pool at this Dunlavy Park. It was turned into a splashpad, which I prefer because it is easier to watch and the kids can run through the water year-round. (When it is re-activated, just look for the button to turn on the water!)
The water tuns off automatically on a timer, and THE THING to do is be the one that turns back on the water. As soon as the water turns off, all the kids race to the button and push it.
The splashpad is probably about ten years old now and needs some new paint, but the kids are still happy to run through.
Know that the splashpad and ball fields are in full sun, so be sure to bring your hats and sunscreen.
Ervan Chew Park is a popular neighborhood park with free parking on the street. The park is not fenced in, but there is some distance between the play areas and the street.
The only restroom is a porta-potty, so plan accordingly! Oui Banh Mi and Starbucks are around the corner, so maybe stop there for lunch or drinks when one is needed!

We will have to check this park out. Thanks for sharing.
This parks play ground equipment is exactly the same as the equipment at Mangum Manor Park off of Saxon and Costa Rica in 77092 near Scarborough High School.
Mangum Manor park had this odd circular concrete area that is unused space. The space doesn't make sense but looks like it was set up to be a splash pad. It even looks like the water hooked up but capped off.
I asked neighbors but they say they don't remember there ever being a splash pad or fountain of any kind. They say the space has been there for a decade + now with no rhyme or reason as to what the space was intended to be.
I look it up on Google maps and the earliest picture they have of Mangum Manor Park is from 12/2007 and the round space is there but no splash pad/fountain.
Now I see Dunlavy park with the same equipment and over all layout only with a functioning splash pad. It makes me feel that a splash was intended for Mangum Manor park but never materialized. Now the space just sits there mostly unused.
Too bad because we live so close. My daughter loves the splash pads.
