Hi I'm Juliette! My husband, my 6-year-old son and I love going out to eat and we are sharing our restaurant finds with you!
Last week, after reading BigKidSmallCity's Things to Do in Houston this Weekend, I noticed the Blanket Bingo evening at marketplace square right next to Niko Nikos. HISD happened not to have school on Friday so we decided to have a picnic and play bingo! Oh yeah, we are that kind of crazy family!!
We arrived at 6:00pm and set up our blankets on the lawn. We then ordered Niko Niko's gyro sandwiches ($6.00) from the food stand.
I have to admit that my pictures of the food look ... not appetizing at all and that would be wrong to show them because the sandwiches were delicious! So, please go to their website for delicious and mouthwatering pictures! They also have a kid menu for $5.50 and lots of fun sides.
If you don't feel like sitting on the grass, they have nice tables and even a cool zone so you barely notice the September heat!
Market Square is a fun downtown location surrounded by old buildings (with bars and restaurants) and new ones. It also has a small, enclosed dog park.
The bathroom is one unmarked room on the side of Niko Nikos. It is clean, and be sure to ask for it to be opened for you. But if you are there for an event, the bathroom is probably going to be a porta-potty. I used to avoid them like the plague until I had my son and if he has to go...he has to go, porta-potty or not!
The bingo part of the evening was a lot of fun, well organized and the crowd was very friendly and lively. Surprisingly, there were not too many children but our son had a great time stamping his numbers, hoping for the oh-so-elusive bingo!
So, even though we didn't win at bingo, we all had a great dinner and experience downtown! See you next week for our next culinary adventures!
