We were driving through Chinatown, on our way to Arthur Storey Park (and accidentally finding Teo Chew Temple) and stumbled into Six Ping Bakery.
This place is open when much of Chinatown is still sleeping... and is full of rolls, cookies and beautiful cakes. We found the red bean roll with custard skin and dinner rolls (which are plain white rolls that my son thinks taste better from a Taiwanese bakery).
Some of the rolls are shaped like squids or bears or pigs... and some are just regular rolls. All are a couple dollars.
It was on the last trip that I nearly had to preform the Heimlich on my friend that choked on a delicious sesame cracker while pointing out a police car to her toddler... and despite this traumatic experience, she still wanted to make a return trip with me.
If you are looking for red bean or taro stuffed buns, check out one of the Six Ping Bakeries. And if you need a very cute Hello Kitty or Angry Bird (or lots of others) cake, you need to see their display!
